The current shunt required is a 50mV per 100A shunt, the cheap shuts are all 75mV per 100A. To get the correct shunt will cost more than the meter . . .

Just pop down to Jaycar and buy a suitable resistor.

(drags out calculator)

A 5 watt, 0.0005 ohm resistor should do the job nicely...
They've got 5 watt, 1 ohm for 48c, put 2000 of them in parallel?

OK, plan B.
How about 8g cable; 0.00252ohm/m, 20cm long.

That's actually do-able!

Mind you, you can get equivalent functionality new on ebay for a fraction of the price.

Jaycar have a 50mV 100A shunt.
$20

The retail price for a new one inc shunt is $250 'ssh

Auction ended - no bids - so relisted. But pickup only - so add $20 postage . . so $140 so maybe not a good deal anymore.

I have the small unit - it is a marvel in telling you what your battery is doing re charge and discharge - especially when running a fridge.

70 litre pvc roll top duffle bag - perfect as a gear bag on the boat - $20 .

http://www.compassexpeditions.com/produ ... uffel-bag/

Nb this is part of a closing down sale for a motorbike tour company based in nelbourne and will not be shipped until stage 4 restrictions are eased.

They also have used garmin zumo Gps units - you pay a premium for water proof and rugged so probably not good value for sailing, but those of us who sail AND enjoy getting lost on 2 wheels might be able to adapt them?

These tend to be heavy and fragile - we carted a folding solar pack around west oz for 3 months and it only died towards the end of the trip....I think the flexible panels make more sense for draping across things on a boat

8m is too short for a Castle (8.9m) and the mast join is completely different from the tabernacle arrangement of Castles #9 & #10:

That is an interesting setup and solution for lifting the mast when you have an obstruction such as a high cabin top or perhaps a protruding centre board. I'll have to see what you have there zebedee.
