Gladstone With TS

In my rapidly changing holiday plans I may now be in Gladstone for week either side of Christmas day with my boat.
I know only what I see on Navionics and the BOM wind rose for Dec in Rockhampton.

Seeking ideas for day trips and maybe an overnighter using Gladstone as a base. Anybody familiar with the area and the islands?
