Re: Introduction
Hi Dave, yes we'll be racing again this Saturday and the last race is next week. People start to launch from about midday onwards so that's probably a good time to go down and have a bit of a look and see how they do it and what goes on. I can't help you with the boat inspection service I'm afraid but if you buy in this area, you'll probably be able to find someone who knows the history of a boat. See you on Saturday.

Re: Introduction
Hello again All!
Well after a couple of unsuccessful attempts to meet people at the hardstand, I continued my search for a boat and I can finally say that I have made a purchase.
I decided on a Bonito 22 in the end, I think this will suit our needs rather well and can't wait to hit the water and give her a go!
I've cleared a space in the garden for her as a temporary home while I give her a bit of a birthday and attend to all the little jobs that need doing.
Next step is to join TCYC and sort out some hardstand storage
look forward to hearing any more advice/opinions/tips from you guys
Cheers
Dave

Actually, having spent all day sanding and painting bits of my Mirror dinghy, I'm leaning towards becoming a wooden boat lover - at least you can see the results of your labour quite quickly.
It would be handy for me to become a convert; in addition to the Mirror I have a 1940's, 33' timber work boat sitting in a pen at the Port of Sale waiting to be reno'd...the hull is sound, and it has the original Ruston (I may not have spelt that correctly
) engine that went into a lot of the early trains in England and here ... but the rest of it needs a lot of work...

Off Topic
Which gives me the opportunity to say:
"Napier Deltic"
As developed by the British shortly after the second world war for Motor Torpedo Boats and subsequently used in the British Rail Deltic locomotives.
All of which is off topic, but leads nicely to this lovely off topic graphic of the operation of the innards of this boat/train motor:

That's all, enjoy!

Hi Dave,
Congratulations on the purchase. The Bonito 22 is a fine boat and I'm sure you'll be happy with her. Here is the link to the Bonito Aquarius 22 owner's forum:

They have rig tuning guides, a database of owners if you're looking for someone near you amongst other things and a helpful forum.

Re: Introduction
Hey!
Doing a big clean up of the boat, fitting some led lighting and getting to grips Roth how everything works. I have a couple of questions:
Where is the bilge pump?
Where is the water tank? And where do you fill it up from?

Re: Introduction
Hi guys, bit of an update
Patience is still sitting in my front garden, and I am showing incredable patience with her!
I've gutted her and the interior is getting a sand and a fresh coat or two of varnish, the seats recovered and the electrical system a little tidy up.
I will wait for the weather to improve before treating the exterior timber and give her a good polish before she takes me on my maiden voyage!
Very very keen for a hookup for the TCYC any time, I would like an intro to whomever will take my money for a membership and use of the hard stand
Anyone keen to help there??
Dave

Re: Introduction
Hi Dave,
Good to hear you nearly have your boat ready for the summer!
This is a link to the TCYC website membership area. You should print off the application form and take it down to Sharon in office at the club. Opening hours are from 8.30 to 4.30pm. Lodging the form will get the ball rolling so that you can then be allocated a place at the hardstand.
http://www.tcyc.com.au/?page_id=236
If you need a nominator, tell Sharon that I have sent you along (John Percy) and that if she needs me to nominate you, I will pop down. My number is 0hfourohtriplefiveninesixdoubleone.
Once you have got all that sorted out, you should be able to take your boat down there. If you need a hand give me a call. We often walk our dog down past the hardstand on the beach so keep your eye out for a recalcitrant beagle.

Hello All!
its been a while - life huh!!!
Well I'm pleased to report I'm a fully paid up member of TCYC and my Bonito Patience is on the hardstand at point peron
I'm even more pleased to report that after 2 long years I finally took her out for the first time last sunday
What can I say? I'm in love! not that it was without its moments
*had a bit of trouble getting her to float off the trailer
*forgot I had my iphone in my pocket while having said trouble
*forgot I had my car keys and garage remote in the other pocket
finally got underway only to have to outboard overheat while in the middle of about 15 moored boats with no sail up
talk about a steep learning curve!!
sailed around for an hour or so with just a storm jib up as it was a bit blowy and I didn't want to commit myself too early!
eventually hoisted the main (I'd had the sense to practice this a few times on dry land)
WOW! I don't know what I was expecting but she sails wonderfully, the log wasn't working so I have no idea of the speed but it felt wonderful and there was a grin from ear to ear!
next is a service for the outboard and I'll be out straight away
++ the people I've met from them stopping by for a chat have been awesome! even (briefly) met a chap who had sailed her before and knew the previous owner - fantastic!!

Re: Introduction
Well done mate;
Sounds like my first day out, however at least your outboard started
There is no better thing than learning from your mistakes, my phone took a swim first time out Grrrrrrr
Now the phone goes in the waterproof pouch before the boat goes in the water.
It all gets easier with practice

Re: Introduction
Good stuff Davey. The sailing is definitely the easy part with a trailer sailer! The outboard and trailer are necessary evils that we have to cope with
