Re: 2nd sail in Westernport
No 2. Its not a hard and fast rule, but it's always worth checking them. The tides this past weekend were a bit odd, with the cycles being a bit out of sync which resulted in the highs not being as high as normal and the lows not as low as normal. So the flows wouldn't have been as great. The tide r...

I've used Styles Point/Rathmines and Valentine, both are good.
The one to the south of LMYC at Belmont is hard to get in and out of, you have to follow the shore line around in a shallow channel.

Re: Alternatives to brand name sailing gloves
I use Ronstan gloves, get about 2 seasons out of them, the blue and red ones.
I've tried other brands, would be lucky to get half a season out of them, even the grey low cost Ronstan ones don't last as long.
So its the primo Ronstan for me.

One of our club members had one, great cruising boat, not particularly quick for it's size though. Sailed well, well mannered boat.
Inboard diesel, pretty heavy boat too.
He had it a long time and took it everywhere.

Re: Arnold's Boat Shop
Arnold may be a victim of his own success. His prices are making him quite popular with yachties, which means more business, but still only one guy to answer the phone, respond to emails, order goods, pack and send, bank the money, do accounts etc. I agree, he may need to adjust his delivery timelin...

No, onus is on P to keep clear. There is no requirement on S to hail. SECTION A RIGHT OF WAY A boat has right of way when another boat is required to keep clear of her. However, some rules in Sections B, C and D limit the actions of a right-of-way boat. 10 ON OPPOSITE TACKS When boats are on opposit...

I've used International Toplac with a result I'm happy with and people have been surprised that it was not sprayed.
I used the Foam rollers and didn't bother with the brush.

Thanks Guys,
I think we'll hire some suits and take them along just in case, may not wear them anyway, but could be wise to have them.

Whitsunday, Stingers in December??
Hi Guys, we're planning a family holiday to the Whitsundays in December
and one of the things that has come up is Stingers
.
So the question to the QLD locals is, how bad is it, if we go swimming are we going to get stung or is it just something to be wary of?

Having just finished building an Impulse, I'm selling my Tasar. Boat is in good condition, timber foils in average condition, foil bag, 2 sets Dacron sails in average condition. Aluminium beach trolley. We've been sailing the boat regularly so it's ready to go, good club racer, not going to win cham...
Re: Rigging
Hi Alistair,
my last lot of stays cost about $200/stay from Sheerline in Sydney, for a 10m fractional rigged mast.
But, there is a few things you should not skimp on,
Safety equipment,
Motors,
Anchors and
Rigging.
A failure of any one of these and things go pear shaped very quickly.

Hi Aza, we had the Alko Parabolic galvanised single leaf springs on the clubs rescue boat trailer, they were still in great nick when the trailer frame rusted out many years later.

Thanks for that INMA We don't really want to force the skipper to go to that much trouble because it is a very arbitrary figure, and I doubt if he would want to anyway. We only have 1 RL24 in the mixed fleet and he has just sailed his first race for a few seasons. I'm just really looking for a rule...

You must have won the lottery marg! Bcf stands for bogans, camping and fishing up my way. The triple jammer at $50 sounds like good value. Although I've always wondered if that long lever might catch something and accidentally release. I've not decided yet between the spinlock 4-8mm or 6-12mm. I us...

Re: Bush Mechanics - The hits and the failures
Before the start of the Marlay point one year the out board wouldn't start (situation normal :P ) so I whipped the float bowl off to have a look as the needle had a habit of sticking. In the process "someone" dropped the needle into the 30cm high grass. After an hour of looking we gave up. Wh...

First bush mechanic trick i learnt was in my old VJ valiant (first car). It failed to start one day whilst we down on the peninsula. Whilst I was peering around under the bonnet, this guy came up and said "turn it over", had a quick listen then pulled out his ciggies. He removed the foil from the pa...

Re: Americas Cup 2013 - confusing? not interested?
The AC is a design and sailing competition. It was not intended to be a match racing regatta, that's not the real AC. Along time ago they realised that it costs money to keep coming up with better designs and to try to control costs and get more challengers they went to "box rules" like J-Class (how...
