Re: Gippsland First timer

Thanks everyone, we had a gorgeous night and morning, but looking at the evolving situation with Covid we made the decision to get into NSW before the border closure last night to prevent the need for 14 days self isolation. we didn't want to make things worse for anyone. Metung was gorgeous and we ...

Re: Gippsland First timer

Thanks guys, we are staying at the Edgewater Terraces that has a few berths across the road so I'll put the boat on there for the next few nights. As for shore power, I dont know, will have a look in the daylight. as for timing choices... well, not really a choice, we went when work/family allowed.....

Gippsland First timer

So after 3 days of preparation, 2 months of planning and 6 years of dreaming, I have finally made it to Gippsland for the first time! Today is Monday 6 July, we left Canberra about 1030am after a late start filled with all the usual drama of trying to get away for a week. plus bonus nonsense courtes...

Re: SOLD - Hood 20 Shoaldraft - $1,250

thanks MadMission and Perugrin, I've been looking at a lot of Ralph's posts, plenty there to keep me amused for a while! In good news the Hood 20 is back in the water! I have given it a bit of love with some new ropes, shackles, and a bit of time/elbow grease on things like cleaning/lubricating the ...

Re: Boomerang 20

G'day Jaime, I have been drooling over your Boomerang for a couple of weeks now, but a trip to Townsville is way out of the question. It's a long shot I know, but do you ever have a good reason to drive south at all?
Cheers,
Martin.

Re: Spotted. TS's for sale on the net.

Thanks Guzzis3, I actually had a nice bloke come look today. Hopefully he gives my old bird a good home and frees up some space in the driveway so I can get serious about the next boat (got a bad case of NABB). Anyone got a Boomerang/Austral/Sunmaid they want to re-home?
Cheers,
Martin.

Re: How do I cut fibreglass - what tool?

Jeff and Harb are right. I could, and should, have been gentler. Someone more patient and skilled would do a far better job. I fired it up and jammed that sucker in at full blast with fogged up eye protection, 4 layers of dust protection (still not enough) and a dust mask that prevented proper breat...

Re: How do I cut fibreglass - what tool?

I used my reciprocating tool (Renovator) on some big fibreglass cuts. i now call it the "dusty-loud-as-abastard" tool. got it done though. The 1mm disc on grinder was so quick i couldn't follow the line - made a heluva mess.

Re: Mould/mold

i rubbed the dirty surface with a wet finger and it cleaned up ok with a quick rinse. It seems to be just years of caked on dust and eucalypt sap that could be largely fixed with sugar soap and a pressure washer. that said, the appropriate value is probably $0. Couldn't see sails, no trailer lights/...

Re: Preparation for a good towing experience

Sounds like you have taken a number of prudent measures. Now for the back up plan: get insurance that includes road damage to trailer and boat and contents, plus 'transport home' costs. Travel during business hours and know the details of your nearest flatbed towing company. Leave plenty of time to ...

Re: Share your hints and tips for quick rigging and de-riggi

+1 for all the above. But also enjoy the setup time. Use it to check your gear, observe the ramp, watch the weather, admire your boat from the outside, coil every rope slowly and deliberately. It adds about 5 mins and a heap of enjoyment. Also get the kids involved. Give everyone a job so they feel ...

Anyone going to Sussex Inlet this weekend?

Forecast looks a bit wet possibly, but I am bloody excited. I'll be on a Magic 25 called 'Wild Storm'. Come and say g'day.

Re: Griffin 17 Trailer Sailer

Yeah, there's a fine line between DNF and 4th... Someday..... One day .... The conversation is usually: Committee boat: " hey mate, you still racing?" Me:"kinda tryna" Committee boat: " no worries, you've got about 12 minutes til time is up" Me: "bugger, still got a lap and a half to go" Committee b...

Re: Griffin 17 Trailer Sailer

You can race an RJ... Does that make them a race boat? I am a consistent DNF this season. But with the biggest handicap in the fleet, one day I'll finish before the committee boat picks up the marker buoys and I'll be on the podium! That's my strategy anyway...

Yeah, his description made me want one. Maybe I shouldn't have gone the cheap option in a red jacket because I sometimes think of griffins and sixtiesrelic and dream of my next boat... I think his last post was about 12 months ago and he seemed to be going downhill for a while prior, just based on t...
