Re: New build Scarab 10

Just got an email in from Arnolds that the RF2515 and RF2503 are no longer available and have been discontinued! Looks like I might be making gudgeons for this boat too! Wonder if there are some alternatives.... looks like a lunch time google session. Might have to email Ray and Fran with my finding...

Re: Electric motor

The Sailing Uma team have an electric motor also. They definitely have their power stuff sorted with a microwave, kettle etc onboard. I think they have 10 huge batteries onboard. If I get time later I will dig up the episode.

Re: New build Scarab 16

In hindsight I should have raised the bow more on the trolley so that the boat drains, here she is waiting patiently for us to return on Sunday for another ride. 20201121_174715.jpg We were doing some dumb stuff on Saturday, going upwind with Jazz on the leeward float bow and me at the front beam, a...

Re: Boat cover.

This is one of the 12m long billboard signs ($20) chopped down to 9m. It is only 3m wide so doesn't come down the sides far which is good for ventilation, I leave the ends open as well. Width of boat and height of float beams take up some width :) I put the white face (back) of sign out, it's quite ...

I thought everyone had a tube of Tefgel. One tube lasts a lifetime.

Depending On the aluminium you may not need to tap it, the machine screw will cuts its own thread happily.

Re: Boom tent request for recommendations on design

On the seabita we had a cover that looked like this
WP_20140417_12_11_12_Pro.jpg
The midgy netting, although a PITA, makes for excellent sleeping with hatches and washboards out to get the breeze flowing. Wasn't set real great in the pic, it was our first time using it in anger :)

Re: New build Scarab 10

Thanks Swanny. I've decided to make a wooden one first off. This will allow me add and subtract things and then I'll transfer that design over to something lighter. Trimarans aren't the most stable beasts on trolleys when unfolded and I want to experiment with a front beam tie down point. The 16 has...

Re: New build Scarab 10

I like my fingers without fibreglass dust thanks Harb :) I did the same technique on the foils for the 16 and so far everything is staying where it is meant to be. One could argue that with some epoxy paints there is so little "epoxy" content that they are really anything but? Not knocking them as t...

Re: New build Scarab 10

Thanks Fran. I know people will likely have some comments on this but I use the undercoat as my guide coat for the final fill. I'm just not great at seeing the lumps and bumps unless they are huge. So with that, foils got their final pass of fill and will be ready for a sand tomorrow in this heat! 3...

Re: New build Scarab 10

Ok Fran if you are still watching.. would you care to spill more details on your sail making process that you did last year? I have a hobie 16 main to practise on. The plan was to basically cut the scarab 10 shape out of the H16 main as it stands. With allowances added for edging and the pocket luff...

Re: New build Scarab 10

Managed to get some glass on the rudder, centerboard and rudder case. Now the unenviable task of sanding the glass back. The plans call for a fixed gooseneck on the mast but I'm not so keen on that after having used the OpenSkiff gooseneck. Unfortunately the mast size on the scarab is too big for th...

Re: Hypothetical New Trailer Sailer

I guess you need to examine why the Mac26 was such a popular boat. So a 26 foot catamaran, light as a Mac, can take a turn of speed under sail or motor and large areas to hang out, sleep and be comfortable. Sounds like a winner to me.

When do you start taking orders?

Re: Hypothetical New Trailer Sailer

something with multiple hulls.

Jarcat 5 or 6
Scarab 18 or higher
Farrier 22 or something something

Light on the trailer, fast, shallow draft. No leaning win win :)
