30" leg outboard
30" leg outboard
Looking for a 30 " leg outboard, is there such a thing being sold in Aus ?
Not after one of these 400HP+ beats https://www.inflatableboats.net/yamaha- ... xf425usa2/
but something up to 30-40hp max that will go on a sailboat.

Re: 30" leg outboard
What sort of sailboat needs 30hp and 30"??
A quick look around google suggests 30-40hp motors come in 15" and 20".

Re: 30" leg outboard
Seagull outboards used to come up to 30" with five blade low speed "Barge Pushing" props. Only 7 hp though, and of course no longer made

Re: 30" leg outboard
Might be metric so not sure if it's 30".

Re: 30" leg outboard
A very tall pussy ?
Yammie makes the FT25hp & 50hp in 25" but a 50 would need a 40" leg to keep the cavitation plate submerged.
Looks like a 25" and a 5" transom drop is the way to go or else a 20" on a pod and a lot more work.
Re: 30" leg outboard
Only ones I could find online with 30" legs were over 150hp. The extra weight not an issue but with all that power I'd need a 50" leg to keep the prop underwater or fit them with a Cessna prop and end up with an airboat.
Re: 30" leg outboard
Found one with 2 blade prop and more rust then steel but gave it a miss. I'm guessing the 5 blade ones were designed to replaces horses pulling barges down the UK canals ?
Ended up buying one of this http://seasport.com.au/honda-bf30-tille ... -outboard/ and now giving the transom a touch up with the reciprocating saw , rebuilding the outboard mount to take large brackets. Also cutting off the wings

Here is one for you and the prop has 5 blades too.
Dad always wanted a Seagull. One of his favourite stories he told to demonstrate their reliability was based on the The Little Ships of Dunkirk and the recovery of dumped motors many years later.

Re: 30" leg outboard
Thanks, this one looks in much better condition then the one I saw.
One of them on each hull would look cool once polished up but they apparently run on a 10:1 premix so EPA would either have me arrested on sight if they saw me with 2 of them on the back or if they didn't see me on the water they'd follow the oil slick back to my home.
But they definitely have some potential once converted to electric motors.
Re: 30" leg outboard
this sort of sailboat... With the 20" leg it starts to cavitate around 11 kn and at 11.4 kn it starts ventilating so a 30" would have been perfect .
at 7 kn & half throttle...https://youtu.be/BDWs7Ki3OGo
Next job will be to reduce the engine pod by a couple of inches and see if that helps improve water flow and make a large plate similar to this
https://www.texassaltwaterfishingmagazi ... ion-plates to see if I can squeeze
another 2-3kn out of the engine.
