Cogra Bay to Pittwater

Post by HotChocolate » Feb 18th, '12, 17:02

The crew of Hot Chocolate chose to avoid the crowds at the Gippy lakes this Christmas and instead headed for the Hawkesbury River.
We we're based for the first few days slightly up river from Brooklyn at Cogra Bay and sailed down river each day for some adventure.
We spent 2 weeks and approximately 150+ nm cruising around. Sailing out to Lion Head island, into Pittwater and into all the small creeks past Cottage Point.
There are a serious number of boaties in the area and some seriously expensive/ large hardwear. In spit of the masses of boats we never felt crowded in and at many places we anchored overnight only 2/3 other boats. One of the highlights of the trip were the guys at Careel Marina who organized for Hot Chocolate to hang of a mooring so we could walk into Avalon to do some shopping. Go Careel Marina, saved our ass and wallet. Lowlight was the cottage point cafe that wanted to. Charge 75 big ones for a sixpack of aussie beer and a pedestrian bottle of plonk. Boo to being ripped off.
For a southerner Otis such a pleasure to have such warm water to swim in, and warm it was.
We launched from Parsley Bay which had plenty of available parking the day we arrived 27th Dec. Ramp is easy to launch from with a 2wd.
Here's a nice and cheesy vid of the trip.

Thanks for the video. I sailed Pittwater for 17 years in the 70's/80's in keelers. loved it, but nobody around in the weekdays then. You may think it is a cheesy vid, but i enjoyed it, thank you again.

Coops.
Some people are like clouds. When they go away it makes the day seem brighter.
