Gennaker on Elliott 7.4 CBH Implications?

Post by Jon » Oct 22nd, '16, 21:18

I'm currently rebuilding a Elliott 7.4, with non standard taller mast and longer boom. There is not many in Oz so I'm not to worried about class rules. Currently talking to a sailmaker about a new squaretop main.
I have grabbed off my old boat a near new gennaker and plan to put it on after I can save enough to build a prodder.

I am assuming that I will to apply for an individual CBH. As I don't have a consistent racing record ( due to long absences at sea due to work), how is it worked out?
How do I determine if putting a gennaker on will be catastrophic for my rating? Can I apply for a mathematical rating as per Texel?

I am keen for a gennaker as I am not fond of symmetric spinnakers.

CBH stands for "Class Based Handicap".
Since your boat does not conform to the rules of a class with a CBH, you can only race with a PBH; Performance Based Handicap.

That's not quite true Zeb, you can apply for a modified CBH. Jon, look up the ATYSBR on the Yachting Victoria Trailable Yacht Division website.

It seems a lot of MASRM have a Mod CBH. Certain brands seem to get tinkered with more.

Gary,
Can you please tell me the length of your boom, I have a copy of the original sail plan but it is very hard to read. Stock appears to be 2.4m long?

Gary,
PM sent. I will not be able to read the response as I will be at sea and incommunicado until Friday.
