Re: New build Scarab 16

Shoot, I built the second float backwards ;) I hope you registered the patent before someone else does. I can see how it would be easier to tack this way, just have to decide if you prefer a starboard or a port tack. That's it for the build kiddies. Now it's just sanding and filling and sand...

Do they really last 4 times longer?
At $2 a piece they better last 10 times longer, I get the standard discs of ebay by the 100 for under 20 bucks.

Re: careel 18 issues

However the cleat being on the underside means with no or light wind on the sail it continually uncleats itself. Had the same issue even with my cleat being on the side of the boom so I replaced the plastic clamcleat with a stainless V cleat. 8229-2T.jpg On the underside works even better and will ...

Re: New build Scarab 16

 You remembered a bit late this time. You can use biax but you'll need to find a way to keep the pressure on it while the epoxy sets or else stay next to it and press it down by hand every few seconds until it sets. Or buy a couple of meters of twill and use that on odd shape bits, ro...

What sort of sailboat needs 30hp and 30"?? this sort of sailboat... 20190211_180949.jpg With the 20" leg it starts to cavitate around 11 kn and at 11.4 kn it starts ventilating so a 30" would have been perfect . at 7 kn & half throttle...https://youtu.be/BDWs7Ki3OGo Next job will be to reduce the e...

Re: New build Scarab 16

Got a slight issue with the tape sticking to the curves on the transom, looks like a grinder job to me ;) For odd shapes like could try twill cloth next time, if follow the curves much better then biax. The vacuum created by builders film should have held the glass in place if you cut it in overlap...

I solved that one by having the cars parked in the driveway for almost a year now.

Re: Sails Delaminating

The sail is very shiny white, it does not appear to have any color. The beginning of the end as adhesive is starting to break down. Try clear kwick-grip contact adhesive to glue the strands down and keep the tube handy as nearby threads will soon come apart as well. Not sure what or if they even ma...

Re: AIR IN WATER SUPPLY LINES

Hi All, I have two hand pumps on my Sunbird 25 supplying fresh water from bladder storage to two sinks (one in the galley, one in the heads). I am finding when pumping the tap in the galley the flow is not great and often sputters as if out of water. By pumping both taps at the same time the flow r...

Re: Repainting non skid areas

I sanded my molded non skid flat as it was a bit too slippery when wet and barefoot and wasn't really designed to be painted over, once the gelcoat needs painting may as well sand the non skid flat and do it right . I did mine with 2 pack + Intergrip using this as a guide https://www.youtube....

Re: 30" leg outboard

Here is one for you and the prop has 5 blades too. Thanks, this one looks in much better condition then the one I saw. One of them on each hull would look cool once polished up but they apparently run on a 10:1 premix so EPA would either have me arrested on sight if they saw me with 2 of them on th...

Seagull outboards used to come up to 30" with five blade low speed "Barge Pushing" props. Only 7 hp though, and of course no longer made :D :D Found one with 2 blade prop and more rust then steel but gave it a miss. I'm guessing the 5 blade ones were designed to replaces horses pulling barges down ...

Re: The scam outboard site

This one first appears on google on November 17 2018, with no trace before then. It's hosted in London (UK). That would mean they lied about being around since 2001 ? :? Supposed to be located in Qld so I've sent them a message to let them know I'm keen to buy a 50hp xl, will pay cash on pickup but...

Re: New build Scarab 16

The float decks. 6mm ply but the ply is too stiff to form the curve as per the design. I can put one hand each side on the ply deck and hold my 70kgs over the float on my hands but the ply will not make it. Comes close so I'm guessing i need to eat more... maybe i slice the deck ply down the middle...

Re: 30" leg outboard

What sort of sailboat needs 30hp and 30"?? A quick look around google suggests 30-40hp motors come in 15" and 20". A very tall pussy ? Yammie makes the FT25hp & 50hp in 25" but a 50 would need a 40" leg to keep the cavitation plate submerged. Looks like a 25" and a 5" transom drop is the ...

Re: New build Scarab 16

I do everything that isn't noisy as a night shift. Kids go to bed, i go to boat. Cutting out ply, fibreglass and sanding are kids awake jobs. The boat is directly beneath the bedrooms. Painting and sanding by hand in between coats should be alright then provided you can keep the bugs away from your...
