Re: Harken Lewmar Ronstan etc opinions

While the VOR was in melbourne i was lucky enough to have a tour on board Mapfre Mad, your right, these guys do stuff differently due to the nature of their boats and the way they have to sail them. They trim their backstays as well more than their travellers amongst other things, they carry appare...

Re: Boat Broker selling of vessel agreement - Warning

Yes I am biased, but good reputable brokers, ARE licensed second hand dealers they ARE members of the BIA, and generally those who have been in the business for a while are the ones who fit all the criteria and do follow the rules. Like anything, do your homework. Having said that, there is somethin...

Re: Who has bought sails from Asia/Indo ? ?

There are many things you need to consider. Like EVERY other business they are in it to make a dollar, don't begrudge them that. There are peak and trough periods so you can always negotiate different levels of pricing depending on time, just don't expect the result to be the same everywhere all the...

Re: How do you retire or scrap a boat?

I have seen a number of boats cut up and taken away to waste. Generally using a chainsaw.

Sure you can sell the metal as scrap, but sometimes you are able to sell the rig complete

Zhik zkg's, the next best shoe to the dunlop volley from a grip perspective.

Once they hit the concrete, remove them, but as a boat shoe, they are great.

Re: Success with painted tarps, now what about sails?

There are so many variables here. Laminate and '3D' moulded sails are a completely different kettle of fish to panel sails. The fabric construction is entirely different, and the needs are different. In most laminated sails, the outer coating is often UV stabilised/protective. In addition many of th...

Possibly a yard trailer legal to tow without a load. Yes I agree. I guess I would hope that dealers would discuss safety items such as the roadworthy requirements with buyers and not let them just drive off into the sunset with a dangerous and illegal rig. Likewise, things like the marine toilet no...

Re: Attaching Jib Sheet

I dont like anything hard flogging around crew, or banging into the mast or other fittings, so I suggest soft loops, or at the very least have a sailmaker put some elephant ears onto your clew to protects as much as you can. I am also not a fan of having attached sheets on anything other than storm ...

Mine had a holding tank and macerator unit under the front v berth including pipe and switches for diversions. There was some foam material in there which had previously been removed to make way for the toilet gear, but the space was well used (We had the middle panel permanatly installed) I used th...

Remove any halyards you don't want, but put in a mouse line which you tie off at each end so you can pull them through when you want them back.

The other thing that is useful for halyards, is a length of bike chain which can be dropped with a mouse line. It rolls over the sheave, drops down a vertical rig and can be pulled out exit slots with a piece of wire.

Check again, but I think you might find under 12 needs a pfd always. (Perhaps it depends on where you are )

I suggest a rashie that is UV proof, hat, glasses and sunscreen and then more sunscreen.

water bottles all over the boat.

Re: Missing Halyard

I have never understood why small boats have wire halyards, in my opinion completely unnecessary in a boat of 25 feet or less from a strength point of view. But spectra does fit nicely into a brass sheave designed for wire. 8) Low stretch rope, spectra or dyneema, presumably has some spring but now...
