Re: Need Noelex 25 boom and main sail

Ive got a boom from a Ross780 if your interested.
Its a flattened oval shape.
Probably a bit heavier than your noelex boom.
Might get you out of a jam if you cant find anything soon.
I can loan it for free and return it once you find the proper boom if that helps ? ?

Re: Repowering Clubman 8

We repowered our clubman back in 2007 ? ? I think. Put in a Honda short shaft, electric start, remote control unit. Took a lot of fiddling and had to trim a small part of the fibreglass gutter on the forward part of the locker/lid area. Also ran the exhaust thru a tube out thru the transom if I reme...

Re: Hamilton Island Race Week

We have 4 boats going from Lake Mac. Plan to spend a week cruising around and then 2 boats are entered in HIRW. A sonata 26 called X Rated, normally very competitive, and I'll be sailing on a Ross 780 called Zorro. I declined to enter QE3, I mean the racing is only for a week, probably only get one...

Re: Is Trailer Sailing Dead?

here are 6 kids from our sailing club, all 15years old and under. Took them down the coast for a regatta. Lent them a boat that they'd never raced before. Ugly looking reef, but it was the best they could come up with in the circumstances. Even had the confidence to pop the kite ! This is what we ne...

Re: Photos of electric keel winch

Thanks so far gents. My fear of mounting a 4wd type winch to the keel case is not being able to fix it down well enough. I suppose if the keel is 300kg, and then has a 4:1 purchase, this would make the forces trying to rip the winch from its mounts about 75kg ? ? Is this the correct way to calculate...

Photos of electric keel winch

Hi all, does anyone have photos of an electric keel winch installation ? I'd like to see pics of the "4wd" type of winch bolted to the keel case or similar. I can set up a 12v capstan in place of an existing cabin top halyard winch, (which would be the easiest option on our Ross780, but I thought I'...

Re: Back stay tensioner wire size

Not sure if your sonata 6 has inline or swept back spreaders.
If they are swept back, then the backstay is most likely just a tuning aid, and does very little to hold your mast up.

Re: Spotted. TS's for sale on the net.

Ross 780 MK3 - $57,000 - Raymond Terrace NSW Says it weighs less than 2 tonnes including trailer - could this really be true? (edit) Just looked at the class rules and minimum weight is 1,280KG, so I guess if it was in fact a minimum weight boat and the trailer weighed less than 720KG, it could sli...

Re: Adhesive to suit wood to wood

Ive used those polyurethane sealants with good success. Better then silicon, and not as strong as sikaflex. Actually glued a toilet pan onto a tiled floor recently. And one other about 5 years ago. Still going strong. Fuller or Bostik make them. In the sealant isle at Bumblings. I got my roll of but...

Re: Brake Activator Identification

Zeb, we are onto our second trailer with a hydrastar actuator. I have a Hayes Lemmerz Energize 3 in cab controller. Its on the compatible list. Its not a flash fancy modern one, but it does the job. I think its an inertia pendulum type. When I fitted it, I used a 12 pin female socket on the rear of ...

buy the magnum Luke.

better looking boat, better class association and racing. A tad lighter I think which widens your vehicle options.

Or a Ross780 !

Re: Affixing new backstay chainplates

Tezza, I assume you have 2 chainplates/tangs ? One on either side of the transom to take the backstay bridle ? ? It seems odd that you cant access the bolts. What about the bolts for your rudder gudgeons? Can you get to those ? And if your rig is inline spreaders, the backstay is really important as...

Re: Question regarding replacing 9.9hp Yamaha

Getting my Yamaha four stroke serviced before another Whitsunday trip. It's not looking good with corrosion and reluctance to pay lots to keep a 26 year old motor alive. My concern is replacing it with current model if the dimensions have increased (it is mounted in a well) and keeping existing (bu...

Correctly or not figured that with the Northern Hemisphere being in the grip of a pretty savage winter it might be a good time to get a quote from Far East Sails for a new main for the Sonata. They quoted USD 442 using challenge performance cruising cross cut . Place order today. Tezza, Far East Sa...
