Re: Vale INMA (Greg Beanland)

RIP Greg. Thanks for the years of helpful posts.
Still looking for a picture of Greg sitting in Bosun's cockpit in 2010 in a van park the day before we headed on the Spirit of Tasmania.

Re: Sonata 7 Keel Pin Elongation

Hi, Lots of pitting there but inconsequential. Your refurb plan is good. Epifill applied by spatula then fared smooth after hardening, good two pot topcoat and it will look and go fast like new. Yes -drill out the keel hole to a size that makes a smooth hole- mine was done on a milling bench at an e...

Re: Sonata 7 Keel Pin Elongation

My S7 keelbolt just sits in its glass hole. I have a small plastic cup covering the bolt head and nut which is well glassed over, doesn't leak and is easily capable of cutting open if I need to and without chiselling glass from the bolt or nut. Now, why did the hole elongate? Does the bolt turn insi...

Re: Looking to purchase Sonata 7

Agree with Sue. Great boat for racing or cruising. Owned one for 36 years. Just spent a nice week on ours on Sydney Harbour. Some real low priced ones noticed in past month. Good hunting.

Re: Keel Maintenance on Wanton C22

Just a note of caution check if considering fitting a keel slot gasket and intend racing the boat, such hull modification is declarable above standard to improve performance and attracts a 3% penalty under the current ATYSBR http://www.sailing.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/170722-Trailable-Yacht...

Ten days well spent, Mark. You did well to get to Chance and Waite south-facing bays, both favourites. The water clarity looked improved. Nice video report. Thanks for sharing it.

"I don't suppose you (or anyone) know if car and trailer can be left anywhere near the boat ramp at Airlee beach?" We left our cars/trailers opposite the police station at Canonvale for 20 days after launching at Abell Point. You cannot leave lone cars near the AP ramp without paying and cars with t...

Re: Trailer sailing Melbourne to Queenscliff

Mark asked " How did you find the Whitsundays when you were there? Is it still worth the long drive from Victoria after the cyclone? I'm planning a trip up there in July." Also fyi Luke.sleeman who asked about coral damage etc in an earlier thread. It is worth the drive, Mark. There is some great cr...

Re: Trailer sailing Melbourne to Queenscliff

Masterful complete work, Mark. Beautifully shot and put together with nice music. You have the RL28 set up really well. Love the davit/dinghy easy setup for passage cruising. Need the extra size for that on a TY.

Re: Cyclone Debbie

OK Zeb will check that out but even if ambitious it will easily beat the 85W older technology base. I think it will keep up. Most cruising will be with the impressive refrig unit in the icebox only. The 40L Autofridge is a pain to get in and out of the boat ( but very handy asset for 3 weeks or more...

Zeb: Bought this: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/252468022360 . Very light 2.1kg thin and flexible.
