Re: New Build Trailer Sailer

Back into it again today. Put down a high build undercoat on the deck, cabin and interior. I just used a roller rather than spray. Shipshape ? Wouldn't use a spray gun with 2 packs unless in a paint booth with supplied air and full PPE, even with roller make sure you have enough ventilation or the ...

Re: New Build Trailer Sailer

Nah, no paint on the hull, just dust. It needs a good wash. Are you going to spray or roll the scarab paint? The twin entry is to ease entry. A single entry would mean you are walking into the back of the keel. The openings are well above waterline at 90 degrees (in smooth water) remember it is a li...

Back into it again today. Put down a high build undercoat on the deck, cabin and interior. I just used a roller rather than spray. Spraying inside the cabin would have just been messy. I'll be stoked to get the painting all out of the way. It's not a job I particularly enjoy, but it's got to get don...

If you are a member of other Tapatalk groups just write your post in another Tapatalk group with pictures attached. You can then cut and paste it on here and the pictures will come with it.

Don't submit the post on Tapatalk to avoid it showing up on the other group

Re: New build Scarab 16

Cordless is certainly handy. I used a cordless angle grinder for a lot of my build. Doesn't have anywhere near the same grunt as a 240v grinder though.

Sorry PM guys, It won't let me respond to the messages. Hope you don't mind, but I'll stick my response here. I'm happy to delete it once you've read, so I don't screw up Ron's thread. Jaime, I'm still in the process of building a 550 so can't give you anything definite on how it sails. My 550 shoul...

Re: To epoxy inject or not

Are you sure it has a core? I thought Sonata's were solid glass. Little ply squares doesn't sound right. It would be a very inefficient way of building a deck. You can buy balsa core in this configuration of little squares, but I've never heard of ply being like this. If it is solid glass the layers...

Re: Steep ramp around Brisbane

Remember that the axle will move up when you hit a bump, so you will need some clearance between the keel and axle. As Zeb says, you can get a torsion suspension split axle that allows the keel to sit between the 2. Helps get the boat lower if required. I've had a boat with a similar draft and launc...

Re: Steep ramp around Brisbane

The other alternative is to have an extending drawbar so you can launch at most ramps without having to back the car underwater.

The Red Jacket only has a draft of 0.69m. I suspect you could launch in less than 1.2m

Re: New Build Trailer Sailer

A big milestone today. Got the hull painted. I've been anxious about how this would all go for the past 6 months. I'm not a painter, but very aware that a bodgy paint job really drags down the whole project. I'm reasonably happy with how it turned out. Needs a cut and polish to give a glassy finish,...

Re: New Build Trailer Sailer

More bloody sanding. Days and days and days of this, all by hand. Great upper body fitness exercise. The rotisserie has been very handy, well worth the effort to build.
Almost at the point I can undercoat.
