Macs/Mackmans in the Whitsundays

Hi, I was at Mackay marina on Friday and there was a large group of Mackman Ts's, last night they were beached at Goldsmith, and tonight their at Shaw Is, I'm anchored just off the beach. There's 11 yachts nicely tucked up on the beach, they got a fire going and no doubt a few sundowners happening l...

Re: Wanted to buy: Code zero or asym

I was thinking inside the lifelines, but not a "deck sweeper" as I'd fly it on a strop long enough to get it clear above the lifelines, the thought is to fly it without a pole & to fly it free(maybe on its own wire luff, not attached to the forestay), that leaves the option to pole out my current he...

Wanted to buy: Code zero or asym

Hi,
In an attempt to get more sail area onto my boat in light conditions....I'm thinking a Code Zero or Asymetrical spinnaker might work.
Anyone got one they don't use that they would like to sell?

Re: Simrad Tiller Pilot Parts

No difference, no problems. I did order it just before 1st July so don't know if that made it the same as before???
I think its the responsibility of the supplier to charge the gst then send it to the Oz government??, probably not going to happen if that's the case.

Re: Simrad Tiller Pilot Parts

Thanks Wanton A very old thread I know, just thought I'd post that the ebay parts supplier "astra610s" that Wanton posted earlier in the thread is still active. I ordered a part for a Simrad TP and it was delivered from the UK, all up took 8 days from placing order to getting it delivered, excellent...

Re: Solar Panel mounting clamps

This is what I have done so far, I think the u-bolts will work fine. I will put some thick plastic sheet between the SHS and the SS arch under the u-bolt area and under the washers. I'll tie some 3.5mm vb cord from every corner down to two cleats so the panel can be rotated about 170 degrees. The on...

Re: Top Hat 25, Mark 1 For Sale

Yes I know what your saying Phil, we have intentionally tried not to personalise the yacht, leaving things like cushions etc to the new owner, as a "blank canvas" if you like, & have priced it cheaply accordingly. We figured the new owners might want to buy a new mattress for the v-berth themselves....

Re: Solar Panel mounting clamps

How about SS u-bolts around the "arch" and then through bolted to the SHS? The u-bolts seem like a KISS approach I hadn't thought of before, but it feels like I'm missing something, except for the aluminium SHS contacting the SS arch, I could rivet some plastic sheet to the SHS. A few SS hose clamps...

Re: Solar Panel mounting clamps

Thanks zeb, very informative thread, your set-up is pretty much identical to the set-up I was envisioning, I may use your idea of the SHS aluminium on the panel(I was going to use angle), but the SHS will solve the problem of the horizontal SS frame getting in the way of the angle , cheers btw, I di...

Solar Panel mounting clamps

Hi, Does anyone know where these Hamilton ferris clamps, or something similar would be available in Australia? Im mounting a 180w panel on a horizontal 25mm SS tube & these clamps look ideal, I suppose I could make some from timber, but these clamps look like a neat solution. Or any other options to...

Re: Compass 28 for sale

Stephen is right, the avatar is my Top Hat 25, with the battened gaff sail. I bought the Compass with the thought that the extra space of the 28ft'er would be nice, but after spending some time on the Compass, I prefer the interior layout and rig of the Top Hat, so the Compass must be sold.

Swanson 36, $19k.
It's old but a classic, if the engine is good it seems very good value for a solid cruiser.

Re: The Golden Globe Race

Not many of the sailors that participate in events like the GGR or Jester, share the journey in such a detailed way as Freeman Sailing does, if at all.
Absolutely fascinating to see the preparation, & devastatingly heartbreaking to read (& see!) what happened 300nm off the coast of Chile.

Nice one.
How have you found the maintenance costs of the 41 ft'er so far?
Had any unexpected 'big ticket' items that have had to be replaced?
That's the scary part for me when thinking about getting a bigger boat...unexpected repairs.
